Dear George,
I'm glad you are again getting mail. We only got the one you mailed on the 14th today. I guess you did worry a bit over not getting any.
Sorry to hear that both your pals are laid up.
Regarding income tax I know that if you had not earned $750 you would not have to file a blank, however I did not know exactly what you earned so considered it best to write you.
So now you are a sign pointer eh! Boy they sure give you all kinds of jobs down there. We sure will be glad to hear of you getting an additional stripe. More dough. What? Can never tell, maybe you will get 2 instead of one.
Regarding you going to Officer's Training I guess it is pretty hard to make up your mind. Just how did your Captain broach the offer. Do you think that he thinks you should take it.
There are all kinds of angles to it. If there is any chance of your being sent somewhere else it may be much better to you as officer than private.
Then if you do take it and make it, they may need you somewhere else, or again may send you back to Wheeler. It's a tough proposition and I really don't know what to advise you. Would it be for duration or for three years?
How do you feel about it? Do you think you would like it? Of course should they send you, you would have no say in the matter. Lets hear more about it.
As mother wrote I went out to Mastic Saturday and intended to stay until Tuesday. I got the wall board. (22 Sheets of it) and proceeded to work, I got all the side boards, except those up by Saturday night. Believe me I was tired. Not used to that kind of work any more.
I then discovered that the stove light was falling apart and it would not be safe to make a fire so I packed up and came in Sunday. Got home about 10 o'clock. Then too, as I had only three more pieces to put up, and as I could not put up the ceiling alone I thought it better to save the days until later. To-Day (Patty's Day) Mother and I went to New York and took in a movie. We saw "To Be Or not To Be" with James Benny and Carole Lombard. It was pretty good, but also disappointing as we had no idea it was about the war in Poland. We got out about 2 P.M., had something to eat and then walked over to 5th Ave and saw some of the parade. Got home about 5 P.M.
We'll try to keep the mail rolling. I will write Tuesday. Gene on Thursday and Mother on Monday. I guess that's about all this time.
Love From All
Dad.
P.S. Am enclosing files you asked for.
