Dear George,
Your letter of the 16th came last Thursday and we were glad to hear from you and to get those pictures. They are very good. Gene is going to send the rest of the ones you took on the trip to Jones Beach.
I guess it was nice for you and Al to get together again and I guess you had plenty to talk about after 7 months. I think too that it was wonderful for that woman to have you both over Sat. night. I guess you will travel quite some before you meet people as nice as they are. Have you noticed whether they have chair backs as I asked you?
I met Mrs. Steffers last week and she said her son was home bit that it was not very long and guess he spent 1/2 the time traveling to and from Ga. Boy its good to see you boys anyway.
By now I guess you have started your new job in the new quarters and we all wish you lots of good luck.
Grace came by yesterday afternoon and said she was thinking of taking her vacation about the end of May. I guess you'll be hearing all about it from her in her letter so I won't say anymore.
I hope your friend will get along together after they take the Kracy's X-Ray and it won't be long until he's up and around again.
Well we had a very rainy Saturday and Dad had to work 1/2 a day as he couldn't make Mastic this weekend and there was a meeting of the fire men for nomination too. I don't know how they'll do out there this year. Glen went into the Army some time ago and he was relieved he's gone from Wyston to. A young Klume is in the Harry not the one that lost his eye a younger brother. I guess that place will be changed this summer. The people won't be able to get there with the shortage of rubber and gas. (Editors Note: I had a hard time transcribing that last paragraph, if anyone could help I would appreciate it)
How does it affect Ga.? The gas stations were closed there yesterday and after April 28th they are going to ration the sugar too. At church yesterday they announced that there was to be a black out around Eliot and from Jennifer back to 80th St. between D.H and Eliot tonight. So I guess they are beginning to wake up here at last.
Well I'll leave something for Dad and Gene to write and close with love from all,
Mother
