March 31st 1942
Dear George,
I am sorry to hear it took so long for the airmail letter to reach you, they told me you would get it the next day. I received the card for Gene on Sat. with you letter of the 26th and I'm holding it until tomorrow as you asked me to.
Grace came up last Friday night and did we feel awful when she showed us the anklet you sent he. You see i was sure her birthday was the 29th and was waiting to go shopping with Gene Sat. We could give her the presents Sunday afternoon. Well we went Sat and then went down to her house Saturday night. Gene gave her toulete (possibly) water and I gave her nylons.

Mrs. Bauer has a very bad cold but said she felt better when we left and we saw pictures you sent Grace of Al and the people of Macon. By the looks of Al I'l say he likes his own cooking.
Dad went out to the bungalow Sat. morning and I expect him home some time today (mon). He is finishing the new room with wall board. he had to put the ceiling one but I don't know how he's managed it alone.
Well I'm glad you like your new job, but I guess you like the salary that goes with it also.
I saw Christy Fitgerald going down the street yesterday. I guess she doesn't make any long trips as it's only about 2 weeks since he was home before. He looks very good and knows it too from his strut. I guess they are giving furloughs again as there seems to be quite a few soldiers around Ridgewood and N.Y. just now.
We had some snow up here again yesterday but just about enough to cover the ground.
i'm very busy just now housekeeping and getting everything is shape so that when I go on my trip to Ga. everything will be O.K. Then I'll have some shopping to do also. I'l be so busy now the time will just fly I know and I'm just anxious to see you again and I know Dad and Gene would sure like to see you too. But of course it's out of the question now. When they start to see (unreadable) again maybe they'll get to Ga. too.
Well I hope Sal gets better soon but when his spirits begin to rise he'll get to feeling better by degrees. I hopE so far for his sake. Can he walk around?
Well I don't know how your going to read this but the leaks (unreadable) are bad after washing down the dining room and living room wall.
Love from all Mother
(EDITORS NOTE: A few of the words were difficult to read in this letter. If you are able to assist please let me know. I tried to figure them out based on context but a second opinion never hurts. I was also surprised at the abruptness of the closing of the letter. It seems like she just sorta trailed off then didn't want to enclose another sheet of paper for the ending.)
