March 26th.
Hello Honey!
Boy, was I tickled to death when I received your present for me! I didn't think you would remember me remarking how lovely they were. In fact, I scarcely remembered myself. I just love the inscription on it. Mary has an inscription like that on her engagement and wedding bad and I think it's a grand idea. That letter you enclosed was so beautiful that is almost made me cry, but I knew you wouldn't want me to so I didn't. Thanks again for everything, and when I come down to see you in May, you'll be able to see how it looks on my ankle.
I'll start telling you all the news from Tuesday on. The club meeting was at Jeannie's and Connie was there all enthused about her new job. She now works in the Pennsylvania Drug Store in Radio City as soda jerker. She makes $17 a week plus tips. She read me the letter Al wrote telling of the swell time you two had over the weekend. Now here's the surprise -- Al asked Connie to marry him in June. He said he thought it would be a good idea for her to live at his house after they're married. She's all in favor of it too and we were kidding her about the "mother-in-law" situation. He figures while he's in the Army he can same and she can too while she's working and if they have any "Jr's" while he's away they'll have some money behind them. Lillian was at the club meeting and she's knitting the cutest blue sweater for her "son". I was teasing her saying that I have a premonition that it will be a girl, so now she's going to knit one in pink too. We had some exciting evening and I left at 11:30. Next week the meeting will be at my home.
Wednesday night Mother and I went to the last of the lantern services. After it was over, tea was served in the parish hall. Aunt Nana, Mabel and Joan were there too, so we had quite a chat. We walked up to Baumoan's and got an ice cream pie. Summer is here again for a day or so, and then it will start to snow again. We stood talking, and Auntie said that since Raymond has Margaret down there she hardly gets any mail from him and is quite worried. We got home about 10:30 and I went to bed.
Thursday, (today) I got into work and there were a bunch of birthday cards from the girls and I was delighted to know that they remembered it. Yours was the first card I opened the minute I got out of bed and I especially liked the poem you wrote at the bottom. Thanks darling. Eleanor Seaman told me she was eating with Leona at the drug store and I felt bad because the 5 of us wouldn't be together at lunch. While the other two girls went with me to lunch, Eleanor and Leona stopped in at the florist and bought me a corsage of yellow tea roses and they were beautiful! They card enclosed said "Many Happy Returns of The Day From The "4 of us". You could have knocked me over with a feather when they walked into the restaurant with the flowers. I had them on all afternoon and they smell heavenly. The girls from upstairs happened to come down and they asked me if I was about to be married. I guess I did have them guessing. Enclosed is a petal from the corsage.
When I got home I opened my presents. Dad gave me 2 pair of stockings, Ed gave me an over night bag (it's kind of a small size and square.) Mother gave me a pink dress which you'll see when I come down to see you. Aunt Dorothy left $1 for me. I did fine didn't I?
I had to have my picture taken so you could see how I looked on my 22nd birthday, so I had Dad out in the back yard. I posed with my corsage, over-night bag, and most of all my anklet of which I am very, very, proud. When I get them developed I'll send them to you.
This evening we went to the Prospect to see "Babes in Arms" and "Miss Polly" Both were very funny. We came home and had some birthday cake (chocolate) and coffee. Between sneezes Mother had some cake too. She has a very bad cold now. I received a very beautiful card from Marie and please thank her for me won't you darling?
I wrote to Sal earlier in the evening and did it in a hurry. I sincerely hope he's feeling better. What seems to be the matter with him?
Say, I sure get a kick out of addressing your mail as "Corporal". Pretty soon it will be "Colonel". Well "Corporal Lutz" (my darling husband to be) I must say good-night as it is almost 10 o'clock in the morning. You didn't forget our "date" this morning, did you? I didn't.
Be good darling and I love you more and more every day.
Love,
Grace

P.S. Here's a "special" birthday kiss x. More shall come with interest.
